Over the past few weeks I was involved in helping to coordinate the Jetpack Ambassador Program that took place from February 8-10. Through the program we flew 10 community members to increase their technical knowledge on Jetpack in addition to building evangelism skills so that they could start presenting at regional conferences.
I had no idea what to expect going into this week, but I think that Aza, Daniel, Julie and everyone else involved did an amazing job putting together an engaging week. Over the course of the three days, our Ambassadors stayed very busy with presentation and PR training, lots of technical Jetpack and even got a great taste of life at Mozilla in Mountain View.
I think one of the most exciting parts of the week for me was Wednesday 2/10, when we started researching events to submit Jetpack sessions to. Since a large percentage of my job revolves around our external events program, it was great to be able to talk about the steps required to get involved in an event. It was also a welcome change to do this in person and feel the hands-on interaction as opposed to the normal routes of IRC, e-mail, phone.
I was fortunate enough to be invited out to the final dinner on Wednesday with the Ambassadors and felt the same rush of emotions I felt in Chile for MozCamp Chile/JRSL 2009. While working at Mozilla we are exposed to so many incredible things, but community trumps all of them. Meeting the faces of people throughout the world who volunteer their time with such love and passion amazes me and makes me feel so lucky to be a tiny speck of dust on the Mozilla wall.
Thanks again to everyone involved and to the Ambassadors: I’m looking forward to helping you rock Jetpack this year!
