One of my hidden talents that I’ve managed to keep on the down-low at most of my jobs is my past as a graphic designer. Having a graphic design background has managed to be pretty useful at times when I need a small fix or need to create either print or web collateral and don’t have the time or funds for a graphic designer.
I’ve been following the Drumbeat movement pretty closely, but I got pretty excited about a week ago when I saw Mark Surman’s post on the Drumbeat Toronto poster. I loved the avante garde look of the poster and thought it would be perfect just to generally post to drum-up (no pun intended
) excitement around Drumbeat. I could visually see this poster grabbing people’s attention in the subway, at universities and other public places. I know I intend to print a bunch out and start posting them in various places – you should too!
Without further ado here is the poster (English and Spanish versions):

A special thanks to Guillermo Movia and Rodrigo García for proofing and editing my Spanish (also Percy Cabello too!) If you want to print these out you can grab the PDF’s in English and Spanish. If you’d like to make your own tweaks feel free to grab the original files (InDesign, Inkscape, and PDF. Happy hacking!
Update 1: Guillermo López translated the poster into a more Spain friendly Spanish version. Check out his version on Flickr or you can grab the PDF version.
Update 2: The original files archive now contains Inkscape friendly SVG files as well as PDF’s. Please not that the font used to create this poster isn’t exactly “localization” friendly and doesn’t contain accents so you will need to draw them in manually.
Time flies when you’re having fun or just damn busy. I started this blog a few years ago as part of a college project with the intention of keep it up as a way to document major life changes and to remember what has happened in my life. What’s the use when I never blog?
But seriously I am amazed and how wonderful life has been. The month of February was filled with some great visits from family and friends – Brock visited during the first week and Ryan’s parents and sister later in the month.
With the start of my new job at Seagate in January, Ryan and I have fell into a nice groove. It’s a welcomed change for us to both be on the same sleep and work schedule. After our visitors in February, we have been relaxing most of our weekends and staying local – the Campbell Farmer’s Market has quickly become one of our favorite weekend activities. We’ve purchased some amazing produce, fish and flowers so far!
Looking back a year ago I can’t believe that I am graduated from college and into a career that I truly love and am passionate about. I had this dream for such a long time to make it cross-country and start up a life here, and here it is now – almost a year in. It happened.
So what’s next? Lots of wedding planning and enjoying our very first spring/early summer in California. And maybe even more regular posts on my blog.
And now for some absolutely adorable photos of Oliver, our hamster.
