  1. Lucky Number Six: Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Tonight marks the sixth time I have seen Trans-Siberian Orchestra in concert. It sounds a bit loopy to go back to the same concert every year, but the show is beyond words amazing. The guitar and singing is fantastic, and the laser light show complete with fire and even LCD screens kept me on the edge of my seat. I managed to capture a bunch of great pictures and even some video this year, so please take a look, enjoy and buy tickets to their Night Castle tour this spring!

  15. Living Room Repainted

I’ve been muddling over the idea to change the living room color for the last year.  We’ve had a red accent wall since we moved into Clearview Farms in Scottsville, NY in 2005 and it has followed us from San Jose and then to Campbell.  We picked a mocha/coffee color, which I honestly don’t think the pictures do it enough justice.  Anyways, a wonderful change before the start of the holiday season.

  16. Go Take Our Mozilla Facebook Security Quiz!

I’m really excited to announce the launch of the Mozilla Facebook Security Quiz!

A few months ago, we sat down with our security team to talk about how we could reinforce our thought leadership beyond security research and technical audiences and have a direct role in in educating users about online security.

At Mozilla we are always interested in new ways of reaching our audience and directly communicating.  With our Facebook group reaching close to 600,000 members, we thought this was a unique way to get in front of our non-technical web users (regardless of what web browser they use) and share some great information on how to help stay safe while browsing.  Since this is our first foray into the world of Facebook applications it will not be localized and will only be available in English.

Most Facebook applications are notorious for capturing lots of user data.  One of the coolest things about our app, is that we have made sure that there will be no personal data captured by Mozilla.  We even go the extra step of hashing out the Facebook user ID.

Like all projects, this was a wonderful collaboration from many people both internal and external to Mozilla.  I wanted to give a huge thanks to our security and web dev teams, AllWidgets, Elise Allen, John Slater, Melissa Shapiro and Mike Morgan, Jonathan Nightingale, Brandon Sterne, and Laura Mesa.

So please, go out and take the quiz.  Share it with your friends.  Post to Twitter and your favorite social networking sites and let’s get this party started!

  20. Happy 5th Birthday Firefox!

Today marks the 5th birthday of Firefox. If you haven’t already please check out our amazing video and 5 years site and ways you can get involved.

Many of you are probably thinking it’s a bit ridiculous to be wishing a web browser a “happy birthday”. I’ve been giving this a lot of thought over the last few weeks.  For most of us Firefox is more than a piece of software.  It’s a living breathing organism, something that we can contribute to and make a difference with.  In a world where the majority of companies care about profit margins and stock price, Mozilla and Firefox are different.  We care about making the best product out there and pushing the web forward.  And we care about doing all of this without closed doors and working in an environment where everyone can get involved.

Lately, being on this 5 year anniversary ride has made me a bit emotional.  The first time I watched the 5 year video I got a bit teary eyed.  Everyday I’m thankful to be able to interact with our amazing community whether it is conversing on IRC, through e-mail or interacting through our bi-weekly community marketing calls.  I am constantly reminded that Mozilla is much more than a web browser.  We are a group of people who care very deeply about the web, and without everyone’s hard support we could have never reached this 5 year milestone.

So without further ado, Happy 5th Birthday Firefox and to everyone that has helped make an impact, I love you and thank you.
