Wow. I haven’t updated in like forever. Ready for this?
I’m in Boston. It has been an absolutely incredible week. I drove down here Sunday. Monday was the User Group Leadership Conference and the Adobe Evening Event. Speaking at UGLC was a breeze. I don’t get nervous anymore *w00t!* And as for the Adobe Event it was good (we all left with free copies of InDesign CS from Adobe). This trip was worth it just by that gift!
Tuesday - Thursday is Macworld Expo. This year it is being held at the brand new BCEC. The show in general has been lacking. Well, the exhibits have. Not as much swag, and very small. I think only 70 exhibitors total. As for the conference sessions they have been great. Today (Wednesday) I went to one on InDesign CS Wizardry Plug-Ins. Cool stuff!
There is also a slight possibility that I may be able to go to the InDesign Conference on Friday. Jason O’Grady is trying to hook me up with a pass. Hopefully he will pull through and I can spend some quality time with a truly awesome individual (Jason).
The thing that blows my mind time and time again about these expos are the people. Where can I start? Chuck, Lesa, Sandy, Elsa, Peter, Emory, P.A.M., Merry Perry, David, Ken, Warren … the list goes on. You guys are some of my best friends yet I only see you at most for two weeks out of the year. Its awesome to be able to come together as a family and do such awesome stuff. On top of my “home crew” there is also a bunch of people at every conference that we all know as the “mac celebs”. Where could we be without them. At every Macworld they are the people that everyone looks up to. To me they are just fellow comrades. Chris Breen, Adam Engst, Andy Ihnatko, Dr. Mac “Bob” LeVitus, Shawn King (not present) to name a few …. It’s just awesome to be able to walk up and down the show floor or conference floor and know everybody.
The evenings have been incredible. Monday night we wrapped up with the Adobe dinner. Tuesday evening was the faculty party where all faculty/exhibitors chilled for awhile and then Macworld announced the Best of Show awards. I find it funny/ironic because all my friends at college (and elsewhere) that are big Mac people drool over these “mac celebs”. Here I am hanging out with them, as we’re joking around an taking crazy pictures. Its good to be on the inside instead of the outside. Wednesday evening ROCKED. PowerPage Reunion (minus Jason O’Grady). Peter, Emory and I went to this place to get pizza until Peter had to leave. Then me and Emory had our quasi date. We wanted to get away from South Station so we got in a cab and asked the cab drivers suggestions. The cab driver started talking to us (he was obviously not from the US) and Emory came up with this story that we (Emory and myself) had just gotten married. We got married in Hawaii and now were on our honeymoon in Boston. The cab driver was soo excited for us. He kept rejoicing and saying “Ah newlyweds.. blah blah blah”. He asked us about our religions, where we were from, future plans etc.. We drove by this hotel and he pointed it out to us and says “Best place for newlyweds.. you should stay there.” Emory made up something about us going to NYC that night. When we got out of the cab and were asking him how much he said “no pay, no pay. You bring back my youth! You just married. Have fun” We felt really bad but he refused to accept pay. However, its quite a funny story. Out of the cab we just laughed. I thought that shit only happens on television or in the movies. werd.
Tonight is the wrapup session and then dinner with the crew. Friday I’ll probably be at the InDesign Conf…. Saturday maybe Rhode Island … Sunday hopefully Rochester. I love this feeling on independence. I have my clothes, car, computer, cell … friends…… what else do I need?
This past week has been an awesome experience to really see Boston. I take the bus and the T trains into the city. I feel like a resident. Its been a lot better than staying in hotel room. Going to school here for four years would have rocked. My grades would have been shit but I would have had a blast. Its all how you see it.
and so i’ll end with my favorite quote:
“You must demand to live in a better world. Don’t be content to merely survive.”
this week has not been about merely surviving. its been a great week… and its not over yet!
